A big thanks to Elaine Campbell from League of Women Voters for leading our discussion at Monday’s meeting of the Park Cities Area Democrats.  The topic was the 17 initiatives on our current ballot – and we had quite a spirited discussion!

For those who missed it, a few overall questions informed our opinions:

·      Why is this a Constitutional amendment and not just a regular bill? (To lock in a conservative policy and make it more difficult to undo?)

·      On tax cuts: why that particular tax cut?  Who does it benefit? Is there any guarantee that the state will fund the school and local budget shortfall for property tax cuts?

·      On funding things like the water fund: we need a water fund, but do you trust the governor’s appointees to spend the money correctly?
