Our History
The Park Cities Democratic Women’s Association (PCDWA) began in the fall of 2011 with a simple conversation over coffee. While at a Hyer Preschool Association meeting, Liz Kooy was introduced to two fellow Democrats who invited her to coffee. That casual gathering became a standing Friday tradition at Corner Bakery, where the small group jokingly called themselves the Hyer Democratic Women’s Association.
As interest grew, meetings moved from coffee shops to homes, and the group officially became the Park Cities Democratic Women’s Association. With Liz serving as the self-appointed president and leveraging her experience as a community organizer, the group expanded—hosting speakers, inviting candidates, and strengthening its network. Following the 2016 election, membership surged. In the 2018 midterms, PCDWA played a role in flipping key races, including Texas’ 32nd Congressional District and State Senate District 16, along with several other victories across North Texas.
The pandemic slowed momentum, but in 2024, the group re-formed under new leadership, with Nancy Breitfeller at the helm. While the mission remained the same, the name did not reflect our membership - which has long included men! The organization had also broadened its focus on collaboration with local Precinct Chairs to enhance grassroots activism and election efforts. Further expanding its reach beyond the Park Cities to include Greenway Parks, Devonshire, Bluffview, and other surrounding areas, the group has rebranded as Park Cities Area Democrats (PCA Dems), to make clear that our organization welcomes all.
As we move forward, PCA Dems is committed to strengthening our community, fostering meaningful discussions, and empowering members to drive real change in our neighborhoods.
