It’s a long race, but we’re in it together!
Thanks to all who joined us for a great session with the folks from the Lone Star Project at our February First Friday.
First the data - then the plan:
(By the way, if you want the full scoop, or this just sparks your interest- join us! Email membership@pcdwa.org.)
On Friday, we heard about the great progress we’ve made since 2016, and the real work we still have to do. The Lone Star Project takes a data-driven and long-term approach. Asample of their analysis - in all its nitty-gritty beauty - is below. For the full slide show, click here.
But it wasn’t all good news in 2020. Texas Dems didn’t win the state house seats we aimed for, including our own HD108. Here’s some of the breakdown:
And if you’re wanting the local lowdown, we have that too:
But then there’s the national picture, from the Washington Post. North Texas saw one of the largest swings from Red to Blue between 2016 and 2020. Let’s keep that in mind as we move forward, healing our community and building the strength of Texas Democratic voices.
The take-away? Deep and lasting change is underway in Texas, but the work is not done yet. What can you do? There’s a lot. First, re-up your Deputy Voter Registrar status - February 16 or February 27. If you haven’t done it before, join the training an do it in the next cycle. Helping new voters join the process feels great.
Then, check out the events on our calendar - you can volunteer to get folks registered for Covid-19 vaccinations, learn more about the great work at the Texas League of Women Voters, learn about plans to connect with more Texas voters, and keep track of our March First Friday. At that point, we’ll take things non-partisan and local, turning to the HPISD school board elections coming up soon.
So much to do, so many ways to make a difference, getting Texans involved in our democracy. Let’s do it!
