Hello sexy Democrats!
Early voting for the 2022 Primary has started! We’re gathering on Thursday, February 17, 5:30 PM, to talk all things primary and GOTV. We’re going to give our “hot takes” on the candidates and races—many of which are new to use since redistricting. Plus we’ll have a visit from Jay Kleberg, who’s running for Land Commissioner. Please come and mingle for a bit and learn how you can "take action" and help GOTV for the March 1 Primary Election. As always, please bring like-minded friends, partners and neighbors - PCDWA is not just for women!
Election Day is March 1, but nothing says "I Heart Texas" more than gathering all the (voting eligible) folks you care about and heading to your closest vote center. Please be PCDWA's Valentine and vote early! Get your early voting information here!
Take some time to familiarize yourself with our new district(s) and review your personal ballot. After the first column and a half, you may be scratching your head about the five additional columns of candidates - mostly judges. These are important positions that impact criminal, civil and family courts. Many positions are uncontested in this Primary, so please focus on the contested races. A PCDWA lawyer recommended that we check out the resource Dallas Bar Judicial Evaluation Poll, which she indicated gets it right most of the time. We would love to hear from other member attorneys at our Happy Hour if they also have Hot Takes.
Finally, we will also be hearing about various efforts to GOTV: volunteering on campaigns, Democratic Party work, training to work as an election clerk, etc.
Most importantly, VOTE EARLY!!!
But wait, there’s more!!
Our earlier start is necessary to bring you our special guest, Jay Kleberg, who is running as a Democrat for Texas Land Commissioner. This is a super-important position within the State of Texas, as the person in this role runs the General Land Office (GLO), the agency that also manages the state's publicly owned land, oversees investments for public education and doles out benefits to Texas veterans. We are also excited to host the Greenway Parks Democrats this evening!
If you don't know very much about Jay Kleberg, please check out these articles - and also come hear him speak at 5:30PM on Thursday. Jay will be there only during the earlier portion, so if you arrive later you may miss his talk.
