The PCDWA had a great conversation on Friday with Kim Olson, who’s running for TX-24. She explained, just as our candidates for HD-108 have done, why North Texas is the epicenter of national politics right now, why our votes MATTER, every single one of them. We live in a swing state, folks! Most of the people in this nation increasingly live in places where their representatives DO NOT have to listen to their local consituents, because partisanship has become so intense that it is more important to have candidates check off a series of nationally-determined boxes than it is to listen to what’s happening on the ground. But that is not us. We’re purple in the best of senses. We can push issues to the front of the discussion that really matter, issues on which vast numbers of Americans agree, like common sense gun reforms, and appropriate attention to the very real impacts of climate change in our town.
For example, Tuesday is voting day for Texas Constitutional Amendments. There are a variety of voting guides out there for the ten measures on the ballot (here’s one from the League of Women Voters). Here’s another from Pod Bless Texas.
But wait, there’s more!
On Saturday, November 9, come to the PCDWA Neighborhood meeting with State Senator Nathan Johnson, co-hosted with Flip Texas Blue and WDUA. Learn about what went on this session at the Texas Legislative session and what we can do next.
And mark your calendar! Come to the next PCDWA Happy Hour, on November 14 at 6:00, and bring a friend! These relaxed events are not limited to PCDWA members, so just RSVP to info@pcdwa.org for the address. Kim Olson will be speaking to us again, and she will bring her message of real and sustainable change to our community. With a glass of wine in your hand, remember how much you love hanging with like minded Texans, and how powerful it feels to bring real change in the world.
More ways to make a difference: Check out PCDWA’s new Action! page. There you will find links to help you:
Sign up for Resist Bot! Send a text to Sens. Cornyn and Cruz every day to remind them that we are here and paying attention.
Sign up for a training to become an Election Clerk. Dallas County is going to need at least 1,000 of these in the next election.
Become a Deputy Voter Registrar and register voters.
And always, check out the PCDWA calendar to see what you can do in the coming weeks. If you know about an event, send it along so we can add it.
For us, right now, acting locally IS acting globally. And that’s not Texas bravado, that’s math. For all those reasons, this is a wonderful time to be a Texan.
