2021 Texas Legislature
In "Are we going to be like Georgia?!" news, the 2021 Texas Legislature will draw to a close on 5/31, not meeting again until 2023, under the biennial system. This particular legislative session has been particularly terrible for the LGBTQ community, gun safety advocates, and finally, voters. Similar to the bills making its way through 40 other states' legislatures, theTexas legislation (SB 7) would outlaw drive-thru voting, restrict early voting rules and access, challenge disabled voters who need assistance, and prohibit local officials from sending out unrequested mail-in ballot applications, just for starters. The vote could happen as early as this week.
Join us on Friday, 5/7 as we will get an update on the high priority bills moving through the Texas Legislature. Stephanie Mace leads the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ advocacy efforts. She will give us insight into this year’s biennial legislative session, answer our questions, and help guide what we can be doing over the next few weeks to engage our state representatives.
