This is a great time to start paying more attention to the races we have ahead of us. As Nathan Johnson reminded us on Saturday, at a full-house neighborhood meeting co-hosted by our friends and parters at Flip Texas Blue and Women of Dallas United for Action, it’s on the ground, grassroots activism that makes real change. The more we pay attention, the more energy we have, the more we can do to ensure that our government is sound and that it serves the needs of our communities.
And speaking of that Neighborhood meeting, can we just take a minute to say how impressive the citizens of our community are? They came prepared with detailed questions and a clear understanding of the policies questions being debated in Austin. School finance, property taxes, and gun safety are all on the mind of our informed citizens. Senator Johnson did an incredible job of explaining his positions and how he makes up his mind to vote on issues that are complex and moral at the same time. He also had some great ideas for how we can make a difference this cycle, including making sure we pay attention to the State Senate races, even as we keep our eyes on the Texas House too!
