TL;DR - Action items — for Dallas County Dems, for Planned Parenthood and for HPISD — below. And our HD108 Happy Hour. Okay, just read it…
What a great meeting to kick off the year! Lots of energy and lots to do. The main event was our conversation with Kristy Noble, who I’m betting most of you know from her incredible work with the FEDDs since 2016. Now she’s taken on the task of running the Dallas County Dems, and there are ways for all of us to pitch in. Why? Well, the short story is that when the party takes charge of turning out the regular dem voters, the candidates can take care of bringing in the new ones. But that first job is not easy. Fortunately, Kristy and her team are building a whole series of initiatives to make it happen. Wanna see what she’s already been up to? Check out the snazzy new website they already have up and running!
Here’s what you can do to continue flipping Texas:
Make regular donations to the party - any amount. $10 a month can go a long way to helping the party build infrastructure, and to be honest, if you’re me, you don’t need all that bubble tea anyway.
Attend the upcoming meeting with all of the Dallas Democratic Delegation Town Hall. Join our democracy defenders for an online town hall on Texas' new Jim Crow 2.0 voter suppression law, the vigilante unscientific and unconstitutional 6-week abortion ban, the coming redistricting fight and more. That’s Tuesday, September 14, at 6:30.
Stay in touch with us (PCDWA is part of the new Democratic Club Council!) and also with your precinct chair. If you don’t know who your precinct chair is, ask us! The precinct chairs, organized in regions, are going to be hosting regular events. You probably had a great time at the one over the summer, and there will be another coming up soon.
There’s a lot more too!
Even as we’re building towards the next election cycle, we’re also responding to some, frankly, devastating policy changes in the last state lege session. Here are some ways you can help here too:
PCDWA members have available tickets for an upcoming Planned Parenthood event with Cecile Richards, at 10:30 AM September 23. Write info@pcdwa.org if you want more information.
We’re also organizing a service event to support women’s reproductive rights locally. Write info@pcdwa.org if you want to participate. A couple hours on an evening soon - join us!
Please join us to help keep reminding the HPISD school board that we care about our students’ health. Masks are a non-partisan issue, and we all need to spread the word. If you want to join the local letter writing campaign, please email info@pdcwa.org with your campus, and we’ll send you the details and a sample letter to make it easy.
Last but DEFINITELY not least, don’t forget that we have a happy hour with the candidates for HD 108 set for Friday evening, September 24. Put it on your calendar and be there.
