Dare We Hope?
As we continue our regular doom-scrolling, we’ve been surprised to see a few rays of hopeful sunshine amid the doom. Robert Reich suggests the sleeping giant (us) may be awakening. Jay Kuo/The Big Picture and Paul Krugman both explore whether the tide may be turning (Kuo with a point-by-point analysis of Trump’s recent losses). Jonathan Last/The Bulwark even looks forward to how we come back from MAGA when we regain power.
Politico has gotten into the fray with an academic-style opinion on whether American Democracy is stronger than Donald Trump. Spoiler alert - they suggest yes!
Of course, the most optimism comes from that great media prophet, Dan Greaney (writer of the Simpsons episode that predicted a President Donald Trump in 2000), who predicts a spectacular MAGA downfall before the end of the year!
What do we do with these unexpected rays of sunshine? We’d love to say we can sit back and watch the implosion, but that’s the wrong take. Scary things are still happening: Jim Comey was just indicted, and Trump did just name Antifa as a terrorist organization (hear Timothy Snyder’s take on that).
But it does mean that what we’ve been doing is working! It means keep it up! It means we can take new, hopeful, energy into the fight!
So, let’s feel a bit less doom-y, and take a bit of hope and pride that we’re contributing toward saving democracy into our ongoing work. We have plenty of ideas for that work, below.
What you may have missed this month
September Meeting
Kendall Scudder hits it out of the park
(as always)
Kendall Scudder joined us again to fill us in on the very latest in the Texas Democratic Party. Only 5 months into the job (and a new baby at home!) the man has been reimagining the party from the ground up. He had announcements (like decentralizing party offices!) and answered the tough questions with his trademarked mix of candor and humor!
August Meeting - redux
We’re media stars now!!
Did you miss our August meeting with Kardal Coleman and Kathleen Thompson on what happened with TX redistricting? It was a terrific meeting - and thanks to our friends at Progress Texas, it’s now a Podcast!! (Are we famous yet?) Click on the Podcast image above (or here) to go to the Apple version of the Pod to catch up on what you missed!
As always, if you want to promote non-profit progressive journalism, you can donate to Progress Texas here.
Do you have images of PCA Dems about town? Send them to us at info@pcadems.com!

October Meeting
We have an election in November! (Really?)
Topic of the Month
What’s on the ballot in the November 4 election?
Yes, Virginia, there is a November 2025 election. Every 2 years the TX Legislative session results in constitutional amendments that must be ratified by voters. This year there are 17 amendments. What are they? What would they do? Let’s review and debate them together!
“What is a Precinct Chair?”
Virtual Information Sessions
Did you know that up to 40% of Dallas precincts are without a precinct chair?
DCDP Virtual sessions - log in from anywhere!
Wednesday, Oct 1; 5:00 - 6:00
Wednesday, Oct 15; 6:00 - 7:00
Wednesday, Nov 19; 6:00 - 7:00
Wednesday, Dec 17; 6:00 - 7:00
On this call, the Dallas County Democratic Party will answer the question: What’s a Precinct Chair and How Do I Get Involved at the Party?! The position of precinct chair is generally the party job closest to the actual action: meeting, motivating, and mobilizing the voters themselves, who happen to be your neighbors and friends! If you're fired up and looking to step up and really make a difference, this is the perfect opportunity at a crucial political moment.
We can make this Texas a Texas that works for everyone, but we can’t do it without you – we look forward to seeing you on the call!

PCA Dems on Bluesky
PCA Dems has a Bluesky account!
Here, we post late-breaking news and opinion items we find interesting, as well as opportunities to get engaged (you can also find opportunities posted on our Facebook page here).
A fun upcoming feature on Bluesky: “Who do we read every morning?” Our leadership team will take turns detailing who we absolutely have to read every morning with our coffee. Nancy will go first on October 1.

Texas Tribune app - find your new congressional district
As always, the Texas Tribune is up to the minute in the changing landscape that is our TX Congressional district maps. You may not know that many formerly in TX 32 (Julie Johnson’s district) have been moved into TX 24 (Beth Van Duyne’s district) - and vice versa! And many in Oak Lawn and Turtle Creek have been bumped into TX 24 as well. Does this affect you? Click here to see your address on maps both old and new!
